KNOWN ISSUES

1. Issue: The application will not run if installed in a folder
created with an Input language inconsistent with the currrent

Workaround: Install in a folder created with an input

RESOLVED ISSUES

v6.0.3
1. Issue: Filenames could be reported inconsistently in
   embedded objects (Reference 560350).

Resolution: This is due to codepage information not always
being available to the scanner. We rely on this information
to encode text in the correct character set. Where this
information is available the scanner will default to UTF-8.
For some character sets that use extended codes this may result
in what appears to be garbled text but is in fact the UTF-8
equivalent based on the data available.

A new switch is also available (/ascii) to modify this behaviour.
This will force the scanner to display filenames as ascii text.

v6.0.1
1. Issue: When running scan.exe on some Windows operating systems
that use non-Latin script languages , including Japanese and
Simplified Chinese. The message "Error: Failed to get AV
Engine and DAT file information" will occur immediately when
   launching scan.exe (Reference 526488).

Resolution: Scan.exe has been changed to format date in
   unicode format.

2. Issue: When running scan.exe on some Windows operating systems
that use non-Latin script languages , including Japanese and
Simplified Chinese. The message "Error: the program has been
altered. Please replace it with a good copy. (when running
scan.exe" will occur immediately when launching scan.exe
   (Reference 526485).

Resolution: Scan.exe has been changed to format paths for
loading the engine in unicode format.

ENGINE END-OF-LIFE (EOL) PROGRAM

Your anti-virus software is only as good as its last
update!

Updating your DAT files and 5400 anti-malware Engine
regularly is essential and a MUST!

Sometimes architectural changes to the way that
the DAT files and anti-malware Engine work
together make it critical for you to update your
Engine; an old Engine WILL NOT catch some of today's
threats.

McAfee(R) Labs recommends having as part of your
Security Policy Program, an Engine Update process to
take advantage of the latest technology and stay
protected!

THE PROBLEM

Today's threats are evolving almost on a
daily basis. Software providers continue to make
changes to their operating systems and applications that
can change the way a program acts or works, and an
anti-virus program may not understand the
changes.

McAfee Labs releases regular DAT files
ensuring that full protection is added to all McAfee
products. The DAT files contain information
required to detect and remove threats - what to look
for and where to look for it.

McAfee Labs adds around 250 to 600 new detections daily
to the DAT files. If you are not up-to-date, you
are vulnerable to any one of them that gets a
foothold in the field (also known as "in the wild").

THE SOLUTION

Taking this into account, McAfee regularly
updates its anti-malware Engine used by ALL McAfee
anti-virus solutions. The engine understands all
different structures in which a virus could
lurk - EXE files, Microsoft Office files, Linux
files, and so on. Occasionally, these changes require
us to make significant architectural changes to the
Engine as well as the DAT files.

As part of a sound security best-practices program,
McAfee Labs strongly recommends that users of ALL McAfee
anti-virus products update the Engine in the
products they have deployed.

To check your Engine version, locate the file
"mcscan32.dll" using Windows Explorer, right-click the
file and select "Properties". Select the "Details"
tab and see the "Product Version". If you
need to update, you must update your anti-malware Engine
immediately from our download site.

THE ENGINE END-OF-LIFE PROGRAM

To ensure protection from the evolving malicious code
threat, you must update the release of McAfee's latest
anti-malware Engine as soon as possible.

When a new Engine is released, the existing Engine
begins its countdown to its end of life and will
therefore no longer be supported by McAfee.

Information on the anti-malware Engine End-of-Life policy
and a full list of supported Engines and products
can be found at:
